Before you can start buying and selling domains you first need to sign up for a free account with a domain registrar.
For most domain extensions, including dotCOMs, GoDaddy is the most popular choice. If you are interested in .co.uk domains, we recommend 1and1. Having an account at a domain registrar is essential if you want to register available domains or accept domain transfers from sellers that you have bought domain(s) from.
Registering an available domain is about $10 per year in general. Buying already registered domains, if they are for sale, is more expensive and then, from the domain's expiry date, you will still have to pay about $10 per year once the domain is transferred to your account from the seller.
Some domains have changed hands for millions of dollars but sales like that are very rare when you consider that there are over 200 million domains registered. Over 100 million registered domains are dot COMs hence why the dot COM extension is called the king of domains.
